Our last day on the island as a family. Today the kids are flying home, we’re staying for another week boat shopping.

We have to check out by 11. So we do. Then take a cab to the airport where we pick up the rental car Mom and I have for the next week.

Driving on the left-hand-side. This outta be interesting. I remember my first time in New Zealand, almost crashed us. But I have been paying attention to the driving as I am invariably in the passenger seat during cab rides and while they are driving, I have been thinking. I am shocked, takes me 30 seconds to figure it out and for this (and the future rentals) I don’t have any problems with the LHS.

The roads, the other drivers, that’s a different story. But we never crash so that’s good.

We don’t have a mountain of time until the kids have to check in for their 5 pm flight but we go to check out where Mom and I are staying (Air BnB right beside La Phare Bleu Marina). Google maps tells us to turn left to get to the Dodgy Dock (where we are going for lunch) but it turns out to be a goat track and we almost get stuck on a mountainside. Give ‘er a bit of gas, ignore the scraping underneath and we’re out. I’m expecting to have to return for parts on the road but there doesn’t seem to be any damage.

Then off to the Dodgy Dock which is a great looking bar/restaurant on True Blue Bay. Great looking, service terrible, food average, price high, but a great looking spot.

Soon enough it’s time to go and we take the kids back to the airport. It’s a fond farewell – we all had a good time and a few adventures which, to me, is the name of the game.

Not wanting to drive in the dark, Mom and I head back to our (very cool) little condo Air BnB near La Phare Bleu.

We have the whole building to ourselves and are in a cute little studio apartment with a nice view of the sea and the marina. Swimming no good here but that’s OK.
