April 23rd, 2024, Woburn Bay, Grenada

Hot, sunny.

I say hot and sunny every day and it is, but more often than not rain falls in short spurts some time during the day so you have to be careful with that. Also get some great cloud formations, this one in the evening.

After rain, afternoon in Woburn Bay. Clarke’s Court Marina in background

Every day this week is filled with work getting the boat ready to haul out on Friday. In the morning we do a lot of research and cleaning and organizing and agonizing. It is tough to move around with my foot but we try.

We meet Gary, the yacht broker for lunch and spend 2 hours with him picking his brain and sharing stories. Great info from a guy who has circumnavigated.

We take a walk (well, I limp, foot is agonizing and any wrong move delivers great pain) around the yard at Clarke’s to see what other people are doing – one decision is made, we will definitely tie our dinghy to the doc rather than pay $300 a month for storage.

G-D dinghy anyway. Gary says it is worth US$3000 so I would love to sell and get something newer, smaller and lighter. Will have to wait for October though.

Afterwards, we investigate the sailmaker across the bay that repaired (sort of) the dodger to see if we can get the dodger fully repaired and also a sunshade made. The late afternoon is sometimes the best part of the day but invariably our back end is facing right into the sun and it is roasting in the cockpit. We also visit the Treasure Trove – a gem of a “chandlery” with little bits of everything. I’m hoping that Suzuki 4-stroke 8 hp motor is still here in the fall. Lastly, we stop by Whisper Cover Marina to check out the laundry. Christy makes an appointment for 10 am tomorrow. Like they are that organized.

By the time we get back and have dinner, etc. I am in agony again and can do no more. I’ve run out of Advil and am trying to get by with Aspirin and Joe Dispenza’s meditative music. Helps. I eventually fall to sleep where the healing starts. In the mornings the swelling is usually less so I can start to torture it again.
