Rained hard overnight but nothing during the day. Very hot. I saw that yesterday was supposed to be a temperature record for October here, but I’m not sure that’s correct – didn’t seem anything terribly unusual.
I’ve taken to writing the DOW on these post titles cuz I can’t remember dates!
Ran out of coffee yesterday at Bob’s so I brought the Starbuck’s instant coffee (emergency supply) from the boat. It’s bearable.
We’re over at Clarke’s and have setup and ready to paint by 10 am. We decide to mix both of our remaining gallons of antifouling paint before starting as it is an onerous task and we don’t want to have to stop in the middle with wet brushes. Takes a good half hour to mix the mud to sufficiently liquid consistency – this stuff is nasty. On go the white suits, the head covers, gloves and goggles and away we go.
We’re done in less than two hours and I am completely drenched inside the suit. My shorts and shirt are totally soaked, when I take them off they drip water as I hang them up. Boat looks g-d good though and it’s soooo good to get out of those suits. Only thing left is to sand and paint the spots where the supports hold the boat – gotta get Jose to move them tomorrow.
It’s Sunday and thankfully not much more we can do – restaurant is closed, busses don’t run. We decided to head to Hog Island for some r’n’r and have a bbq there. Cold beer tastes great and we lounge on the beach and order some bbq from Kevin. We make the mistake of asking for a fish and chicken medley (one each) which turns out to mean 2x dinners each – costs us EC$120, about C$60 for a pretty average meal. Sigh, at least the kids are already out of college.
While eating at a picnic table in the shade, we meet Mike, an ex-New Brunswicker who escaped Canada 10 years ago and is never going back. He makes his living fixing boats now in Grenada.
I have to urge Christy to get going as it is getting dark and we don’t want to dinghy across Woburn Bay in the dark.
Bed feels gooooood.
