16 March 2025, Sunday, Rodney Bay, St. Lucia

Ben’s birthday today. We know he’s in Kingston for St. Patrick’s Day and his birthday so we don’t bother him with annoying parent calls.

Cheers bud and Happy Birthday! xo

The hateful music went long into the night. I got up after midnight to go on the foredeck and listen to the vile stuff. Beautiful night, destroyed for all by that noise pollution.

In the afternoon we decide to go visit Fort Rodney, named after the English Admiral Rodney for whom the bay and the fort are named. It’s a nice walk through the park, a bit pricey but still quite interesting. The climb to the fort rewards you with a nice view to Martinique and the steeper, higher climb to Gunner’s Hill (or something like that) is even more scenic, tho a little exposed.

It’s hot. We wind our way back down looking at some of the other ruins, then head for the beaches that are inside the park. If you pay, you can use the beaches. As we’re heading over, we can see and hear the locals setting up their boom boxes on top of their cars. Once again, they are BLASTING that crap music – absolutely deafening and we’re 100 yards away. It’s not a vendor, not a restaurant or a disco, just some locals with speakers on top of their car. We’re quite grateful to be away from that and are hoping that, being Sunday, they won’t be blasting it all night again.

Nice swim and a fresh water rinse (provided by the park) and then back to Milu.

Thankfully, the noise shuts down early.
