We’ve decided to try and repair our sorry bimini today. We can salvage some patch material, some 3M glue and some thread and needle to try and fix it. Otherwise it is just going to rip to shreds and besides, it’s noisy as hell in the wind.
First, I go to check in with C&I. Will have to check out tomorrow since the checkout clearance is only good for 24 hours and we want to leave on Sunday. We do some shopping, drop off garbage and get cash. Need to fill up the diesel here too.
Drop off a small gas canister – note to self – small canister lasts two weeks. Christy drops off the laundry, both will be ready by 1 pm.
Back at Milu, we begin the arduous process of trying to stitch canvas patches onto this sorry bimini. Christy stabs herself with a needle in BOTH thumbs, one right through the nail so I have to pull it out. Almost needed pliers. We makeshift some thimbles after that. I try sowing but the thread is pure crap. Christy gives me some heavy nylon thread and a big needle. Have to use a wood through-hull plug to push it through the canvas. But it ain’t gonna come loose.
We take a break to get the gas can and laundry. The laundry isn’t ready so I try to convince Chris to go to a local for a rum punch. She doesn’t want to spend the cash on punch, only on beer. Whatever. We take the walkway towards all the little cafes and restaurants but none of them are open. Finally, we see an ice cream shop. Christy says that’s way more refreshing than beer so we go in there. Costs EC$18 for 2 of the smallest strawberry ice yoghurt scoops in the history of the world. Very good but we laugh because we could have had 4 beer for the same price.
We pick up our stuff a water and some ice and head back to Milu to continue sowing. We’ll use the ice to make our own rum punches. Takes us most of the afternoon and even into the evening to get it sown up. We’ll try to mount it tomorrow.
