The weather looks pretty good, for Dominica, so we decide to take our chances with a walk to Pickard, where Scott and Carol stayed.
It’s a pleasant walk and we confirm the bus ride to Syndicate which we hope to do tomorrow. Or one of these days. Christy says the bus goes all the way to the start of the falls hike (which is short) I’m pretty sure the bus doesn’t leave the main road and you have to hike in. We’ll see.
But today, we walk south along the main road. We check out the Customs location and eventually find a short cut down to the beach. We walk the beach, it’s very nice, eventually pass the Pickard cottages which the Whale Whisperer calls home. Everything seems pretty quiet, there’s not very many people around, we walk to near the end of the beach past the 3 hulking freighter wrecks.
There is a couple ahead of us so we stop before the end of the beach to give them some privacy, if that’s what they’re after. We go for a short, pleasant swim in the ocean.

On the way back towards town, we chat with a couple girls who just got off a whale swimming trip and ask them how the trip was. “Pretty sporty out there” says one of them, 4-5 foot waves. They’re on a package deal, staying at the cottage with their husbands and going whale swimming every day. They say it’s grand, which is about what it costs in US$. Unlikely we’ll go.

Then it’s just a nice walk back to town, by some groceries (ok, ok, I bought a mitt full of cookies). Christy checks out laundry options and we go and collect the EC$10 that PAYS owes us.
