Another rolly night in Portsmouth. Well, morning really. Though it has been blowing hard at night, it isn’t until the mornings that it gets really rolly. Rolly is the worst.

We’re planning to leave today for Mero Beach to spend one night, then on to Martinique. The trip to Mero saves us about 10 nms, otherwise a long ride to St. Pierre from here.

As we’re getting ready, a dinghy pulls up and it’s a guy with Suzie, who we’ve met in Grenada a few times at Clarkes Court. Turns out it was her that fell off her boat, nearly drowned and was saved by the PAYS guy. She lost her dinghy, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Now she needs a regular ride to shore to walk her dogs (she has two dogs, a couple of cats, probably 3 birds and a pet turtle, hard to say). Sorry, we’re leaving today, but point her in the direction of some people we figure are staying. Either way, that’s a big ask to cart her and her dogs to shore at least twice a day.

Later, Alexis comes by (one of the head PAYS guys) and asks us about our hike. He confirms we could have gone over the saddle into Colihaut. He also tells us that he has been warning Suzie for weeks that she needs to be more careful. She comes to the PAYS bbq, gets soused on the free flowing rum punch then has to scramble back aboard her boat. She has an old classic wooden boat, no real landing area, would be a challenge to get on when sober. I think she has money but not sure what she is going to do about no dinghy in Portsmouth. Good luck to her.

But for us, the wind just keeps blowing and looking at the forecast, it seems that it is not going to calm down much until tomorrow. We elect to stay one more night. We shuffle one 5 gallon drum of diesel but it is too much work to do more than that. We can fill up somewhere on the way. Maybe Le Marin.

We contemplated going into the PAYS bbq but we have a zoom call and I’m beat anyway.
