Mar 13, 2023 – Bequia

Ho hum, another perfect day in SVG. Tiresome really.

We had ideas of going to do another walk/explore to the north side of the island but gradually those fade away as we read, work, relax.

In the afternoon we decide to hire Thaddeus the cab driver to take us out there. I have a 3:00 pm WebEx call so need to be back at my desk for that – pretty sedentary pursuit but we excuse ourselves.

Thaddeus is right on time and takes us for a tour out to the north end, past the SVG salt plant and all the way to where the road ends by the turtle sanctuary. We’ve been told twice the sanctuary is not worth the visit any more, very dilapidated and not well run. The old guy (he was old 25 years ago) died apparently and now pretty run down. Still, we can see probably 10 people there so maybe it’s OK. We don’t go in though, just walk around the area.

Somehow 25 years ago, we walked from here over the back to a bay on the north east side facing St. Vincent. I remember doing it but not how we got there or got back. There was just a little fishing camp there which is all that’s there now (saw it from Willow Dew). Thaddeus says there are tracks leading away from here.

We stop at the salt farm on the way back and Christy buys some very expensive salt. Made right here tho – they truck water from the Moon Hole area and use solar to evaporate the water and make salt.

Lastly, Thaddeus takes us up a new section of town just behind Port Elizabeth. Very high and steep but great views.

Next thing you know we’re back at camp. Time to chill a bit, start packing, and get ready to leave SVG.

(Dumbhead me left my phone in Thaddeus’ cab – managed to call him via VoIP and he returned it 2 hours later.)
