I’m up reasonably early as the ground is hard. Another grey day quite cool in the morning so good for travelling at least.
A lady RV camper pulls up as I am packing up and says “Aren’t y’all freezin?”. Well, yes but it is warm in the tent. We talk about the area, she used to live in Quincy but moved as it has become pretty dark. I don’t get her inference at first and say “Yeah, it’s a little rough around the edges” which it surely is. By dark she means, “Yes, it must be 95% black now, so we moved out. I’m not racist though.” Uh huh.

Genius that I am I realize I have left my golf clubs at the course so I have to backtrack to get them. Only about 20 minutes tho and they have put them aside for me but I go to the men’s room and almost drive away without them again!
This is not a good sign.
Took a pic of #9 green – great par 5 with the approach all over water. IMO this should be 18 since it finishes right at the clubhouse and is a great finish hole.

I take this pic of a historic school build 120 years ago in Gretna. The sign says how proud they are to preserve this piece of heritage. You can see it is just barely preserved.

Hit the highway towards Big Lagoon State Park. My cousin told me Destin is a beautiful area so I decide to drive through there instead of taking the direct route.
Mistake. Adds at least 90 minutes and it’s 90 minutes of beachfront town. Destin looks like one of the nice towns along the way though. At least I stop at a Starbucks and catch up on my CIBC stuff. There’s a good chance my last file will be approved but still not sure. Driving me crazy.
Roll on to Big Bend, don’t arrive and settle in til 3 pm so too late to do much more than walk around a bit (dark by 5 pm or so here on the edge of the new time zone). The whole waterfront area of this park is closed due to hurricane damage which is basically the interesting part of the park!! Sigh.

It’s going to be cold again so I decide to spring for firewood and get one going as I’m rehydrating dinner. It’s awesome, first time I have been warm at night since starting camping.
