Mar 4, 2023 – Bequia to St. Vincent

For some reason Colby is the last to rise but soon we are under way, about 9 am I think. He drives the whole way to St. Vincent since the flying bridge is a safe place to stave off seasickness while hungover. It’s a very windy crossing and we rock ‘n’ roll all the way but no casualties.

Sails up just outside of Bequia heading to St. Vincent.

Back on “the mainland” (that’s what the locals call it tho St. Vincent is an island itself) we divest the boat of our possessions after the Barefoot pilot crew brings us in. It is so windy even they have challenges anchoring “Med-style” but all is right in the end. Umpteen loads up the steep hill to the top and we say goodbye to the Willow Dew. No tears shed but it was certainly pretty comfortable all things considered.

We check in to our room and put all our gear away then go for lunch in the Driftwood café at Barefoot. Nice spot with a great view and ocean breezes. Christy has decided that I should write the US version of our exams – only two multiple guess tests at $20US gets us the same certification in US that we now have in Canada. They are pretty easy but it takes about an hour to write both.

Last tests, can you tell which one of us is done?

Colby and Stephen are also done their tests and so Stephen gets ready to depart. Christy witnesses the caffuffle in the office as Barefoot insists Stephen reserved a room and so needs to pay for it. He says they never confirmed (entirely believable as we had to check in twice to ensure our reservations were in fact reserved) and so refuses to pay. Everyone a bit miffed but Christy saves the day when she tells Barefoot that Colby will likely take the empty room as he has not secure accommodation. Only problem is he spied the surf on the reef outside Blue Lagoon and is now out in the ocean with another surfer shredding waves. Fortunately, he returns around 3:45 pm, before the office closes at 4:00 pm. Everyone happy.

We put the leftover beer on ice a while ago and enjoy a frosty on the deck, then the three of us have dinner at the café. It’s not the best, but just as good as anywhere else and very convenient. Pretty early start tomorrow.
