Mar 5, 2023 – St. Vincent to Mustique via Bequia

Yes, we are going back to Bequia! We have arranged a taxi to the ferry with Phyllis, the 46 year veteran local female taxi phenom. From there we will meet Heather and Dave Lund at the ferry dock and on to another week of sailing!

Showered, fresh laundry, on the 8 am ferry back to Bequia

Christy actually met Dave, Heather, their Captain Greg, his sister-in-law Laura the cook (both St. Vincent lifers) at our dock yesterday while I was writing exams.

I have developed a poison ivy-like rash on my left hand and a couple other places. Turns out it is from the Brazil bush, in the same family as poison ivy and we must have come in contact during our bushwhack on Union Island. Takes 3 days before it manifests itself into an itchy, kinda pussy sores just like poison ivy but worse. It will be ten days before it starts to go away but as long as you don’t scratch, it’s not too much of a problem.

We do a little shopping in Bequia then onto Heather and Dave’s boat “Pura Vida” – a 45 foot Lagoon cat – same brand as Willow Dew but 100 times nicer and much faster. Anchors up and we sail to Mustique.

On the way to Mustique

We moor off Basil’s Bar in the bay at Mustique. This is the vacation paradise for multi-mega-millionaires such as Mick Jagger and others. Basil’s is always busy each night as star-watchers come to see if any celebs show up. I suspect they go elsewhere now but rumours persist they show up from time-to-time.

We’re anchored about 2 pm. Dave and the girls go for a snorkel and paddleboard (we are loaded with toys), I go for a long swim, Dave defers from paddeboarding. The snorkeling is pretty good, we see turtles and rays and there is lots of fish life.

Greg and Laura fix us dinner. (This is pretty regal, Christy and I feel a bit guilty but help with the dishes at least.) Then the four us go ashore for a beverage or ten at Basils – Laura and Greg will join us later. You can tell this is a little higher end than we are used to as the prices are not low and in US$

There is a fun band playing and we dance and carry on as the sun sets. Lots of people (some of them the beautiful kind but no celeb sitings) and we have a lot of fun.
