Mar 9, 2023 – Mayreau to Bequia

It’s our last day with the Lunds and Greg/Laura. Beautiful morning and the wind has dropped considerably. Nice workout and splash in the clear waters of the bay.

We move out on the usual schedule – it’s about 15 or 16 miles to Bequia and not much wind so we don’t expect to make great speeds. Still, we cover ground and along the way actually snare not one but two fish. The first a good size cousin of the jackfish (can’t remember what it is called) and then 20 minutes later a beautiful black fin tuna.

Fish One
Fish Two – Black fin Tuna Laura landed – you can tell they are both excited

We end up approaching Bequia early so Greg suggests we stop for lunch and a swim in a secluded bay behind Isle a Quatre – just south of Bequia. The anchorage is calm, the bay is beautiful and the water clear. I think a lot of that due to the lighter winds today – might be a bit more exposed with heavier winds.

Looks like we own this island
Nice anchorage for the afternoon off Isle a Quatre. Only 2 other boats in the bay

We learn how to clean a tuna while we get ready for a snorkel. “Backbone” is down the middle so a little different than most fish where the backbone is at the dorsal fin.

Christy and I snorkel over to the shoreline where the coral is very nice and lots of little fish. Probably the best snorkeling I have done in the entire two weeks. Only little fish really, I only see one fish I would consider worth spearing (illegal for me to do that here anyway). We end up circling the whole bay as the water is warm, the bay clear.

Nice form. She is quite fast, if I let her get ahead of me I would have to book it to catch her

Soon enough we’re on our way again. What a great way to finish the afternoon rather than just landing in Admiralty Bay, Bequia harbor.

Back at Bequia Harbor Greg arranges a taxi for us to take us to Sea Shore apartments cuz it’s too far and too hot to walk with our gear. Thaddeus picks us up at the landing and takes us up, showing where to walk down later. We will meet the gang for a last cocktail aboard Pura Vida then go for dinner.

Our room is awesome. Great views to the harbor, nice little kitchenette, mosquito netted double bed, etc. Nothing fancy but we’re pleased. Christy’s accommodation finding magic has worked again.

Must admit the freshwater shower feels awwwwwwwsome tho there is a technique to saving water on this island with only rainfall for potable water.

We clean up then go meet Greg at the Plantation’s dock – he takes us back to Pura Vida for the freshest of fresh sushi. Don’t get much better than that.

We all then ride into town and Christy and I spring for dinner for the 6 of us at the Portal. Some conch fritters and lion fish ceviche are great – Dave and I have the curried chicken which is also great.

Heading in for dinner at the Portal

We say our goodbyes and give Greg and Laura a nice tip then we’re off to walk to our new home. Another great week in paradise.
