Another great day, no rain at Paradise Beach.
I can’t fix the broken clutch part so I go into Carricou Marine and order it – it will be here tomorrow morning, which is good as we plan to leave tomorrow. We can motor and sail with the genoa only to Union where we plan to go tomorrow.
We decide to head over to the town of Hillsborough which has a nice beach, maybe check out Sandy Island and Paradise Beach. Friends said Paradise Beach was one of their favourite anchorages ever.
Surprisingly quiet at Sandy Island, no boats in Hillsborough Bay and only a couple at Paradise Beach. We decide to risk Paradise Beach. (Apparently the approach is shallow if you’re not careful.)
We tiptoe in gingerly with no problems and anchor in 11 feet of water – plenty. I dive on the anchor and it’s fine and we can move up another 50 feet or so without any problem. So we do – gets us a little more privacy from the two, apparently uninhabited monohulls near us.
We spend the rest of the day exploring the bay, snorkeling and trying not to become lobsters. I don’t succeed 100% but another day or two and it won’t matter. Meet a Canadian guy in his cat in the shallower water and he tells us what a great bay it is. We go ashore, walk the beach and check out the Paradise Beach Club which Matt says is a great place for dinner. We make a reservation, lobster night tonight and they have a taxi service. Back on Milu we clean up a bit and around 5:30 pm VHF for Erin the water taxi driver. First time using the VHF.
The restaurant is nice and clean, the people are excellent, the prices are high, the service slow. What more could you want? Christy has the lobster, I have the pork ribs – they are very good. On Wednesdays (yesterday) they have a boat name sign painting gig. They give you the materials and you paint your boat name on a piece of wood which they mount on the property. There are thousands and thousands of boat names around the sizeable restaurant. We will try to come back on a Wednesday sometime. Definitely like this bay better than Tyrell though there are no provisions here.
