Egads, time goes by fast. Seems we just flew back from Grenada and here I sit at Izzy’s in Grenada, October 19, 2024 after just landing.
The summer of 2024 was pretty excellent although there were not a ton of adventures.
Spoiler alert.
Things started slowly as, once back in Canada, I confirmed my foot was broken (well cracked at least) and so took a few weeks to get back on my feet (see what I did there?) with a new plastic boot instead of the plaster cast I got in Grenada. Crutches were critically important to that recovery. Hard to believe I walked around for two weeks on a broken foot – wonder why it hurt at night?

One big event was the graduation of Numbah Won Son Bennett from Mech Engineering at Queen’s. Way to go Ben!

Christy’s Audi died in early spring, the same night we had Professor William van Weingaarten at the Active Living Centre. The tire company wouldn’t put the spring tires on it so that settled it. Good riddance to that piece of junk. Still managed to drive it to Toronto where Joe gave us $1K for it towards a Nissan Rogue.

Early cottage projects included replacing the upper deck on the cabana, building new walkways to the shed, Cindy and the new dock we bought (see video below). Buried a water line from the greenhouse to the cottage so we don’t have a garden hose running across the lawn and driveway all summer. Finally got the Generlink installed for the generator backup and ran electrical to the shed, Cindy and the pump box which I moved.

The weather was generally fabulous – with September being one of the best I can remember. Christy spent a lot of time like this:

I golfed a lot with mixed success – sometimes crushing my irons, sometimes duffing. I think I finally figured a few things out in early October, just in time to forget until next spring. Played quite a bit with Ben – we met a couple times half way at Settler’s Ghost and in Uxbridge one time.
I did my first-ever chicken processing at Bev’s one Sunday. Wasn’t too bad, but I think I’ll try to find something to trade for chickens and eggs rather than keep them and harvest them.

Audrey and I did our fourth concert together seeing PJ Harvey at History in the Beaches. We’ve seen Alt-J, Kaleo, Morrissey, Andrew Bird and now PJ. PJ was a bucket list for me, not so much Audrey tho I think she liked it.

And just about lastly, here are some summary videos taken the week before we left for Grenada. You can see the weather was fantastic.
But the best video was made by Ben on Thanksgiving weekend. He shot this on a perfect Sunday afternoon after I showed him the basics and then went in to finish the turkey dinner. (I nailed the gravy this time.)
Audrey and Mom took these northern lights pictures on the way up and at the cottage on Thursday, October 10th, before Thanksgiving. I was in Toronto and could see nothing.

And the last shot – this apparently the largest Supermoon of the year. Was truly spectacular. Doesn’t turn out perfect but not bad as I stopped to check the mail one last time. Twas amazing over the road.
