2024-Oct-25 – Friday – Benji Bay, Grenada

Hot and sunny, occasional rain.

We are somewhat slow to get going this morning. It’s a holiday and there won’t be anything open at Clarke’s so no hurry to get there just to do work.

Morning at Bob and Mina’s

But get there we do. We start sanding but it is hard for Christy as you have to reach and the effort required is hard on her arms. So I do the hand sanding while she prepares other stuff. It’s hot dusty work. After an hour or two we figure that’s as good as it’s going to get. We need to wash the boat down to get off all the dust and crap, the water is about 2 hoses away so we need to get it over to Milu. There is a boat a few away that has a hose and they graciously allow us to borrow it for an hour. Takes a while and we are both soaked through cuz of course none of the washers are any good, but it is somewhat refreshing. Boat looks good, we return the hose. I tape up half the boat (the other half is still wet) and Christy and I decide to take a break at the restaurant before starting the primer coat.

After sanding (theirs and ours) and just prior to the first coat of primer

The restaurant is closed (was open earlier) which is perhaps a blessing. We both think that if we had a beer it would be hard to get back up and go do more work. We do take a bit of a rest, save some time and money.

Back at it. Christy arranges the paint supplies while I tape up the rest of the boat. It’s 3:30 pm. By about 5:40 pm, as it is starting to darken, we are driving away in the dinghy having painted the boat in the grey primer. It looks terrific, just with the primer coat.

One coat of primer.

Back at Bob’s I ask Christy if she wants to go for a swim before we go up the 77 stairs to Bob’s.

“I might drown” she says. Yeah, we’re tired. But more work ahead.
