Christy here again…

Well, another beautiful day in paradise! It has only rained once or twice since we’ve been here… everyday is pretty much 29 degrees, sunny with winds between 10-20 mph. I’ll take it!

I start my sourdough process this morning. The dough has been in the fridge all night and ready to be kneaded and set to rise again before baking. Well shucks, the dough didn’t rise too well, not like back home … but I decide to bake it anyway … dough is dough … it will be edible no matter what.

My sourdough before baking… a little flat lol

I bake it up and sure enough it didn’t “spring up” in the oven like it normally does. I think it may have something to do with the flour here (“enriched” with what?) and/or the water (if there’s any chemicals at all in the water, it will kill the wild yeast). We eat it anyway as it still tasted good with that lovely sourdough flavour.

We trek in to town later this morning to do some errands. I drop off a bag of laundry at Kel’s laundry in a building right behind the town church… not easy to find. We then go to Maria’s Cafe to use the wifi there and top up on our Digicel. Ahhh… I have the best latte… well the only latte I’ve had in over two months. Perry has a coffee and some eggs for breakfast. Nice spot!

We go to the bank in town for some cash. It takes two tries as often one or more of the machines will be out of money. We then take the propane tank to a guy on the Bequia “strip” (the main downtown street where plenty of shops and vendors are) then go back to the boat for lunch and a fill up on some water and gas by the yellow boat that floats around Admiralty Bay.

Perry has some work to do so after lunch I go for a swim and a snorkel to the end of St. Margaret’s beach. Best snorkelling so far. Tons of fish, a good amount of living coral and I even see a Moray eel.

4 o’clock rolls around and so it’s time to head out to Plantation for some Happy Hour drinks. It never disappoints. We have two very strong but tasty rum punches for US$5 a round and then to our surprise a local band starts setting up. It’s a three piece band of two male Scots on piano and singing and then a female Brit on the sax. They play some catchy tunes and are pretty entertaining.

Well, after a couple… we decide we’re not done yet and head off to the “party barge” in the middle of the bay. We’d tried to go there a few times before but it was closed so finally we get to have the “swinging” experience. Yes, they have swings instead of bar seats… after a few that might get a little difficult but I am good for now and I like it. We meet a fun guy Bob and his daughter Liz from a Cat in the bay called “Shargri-la”. He just lost his second wife and she left her job to come and be with her dad on the boat for a while. They like to have a few drinks (probably why they are anchored so close to the party barge) and after chatting Perry starts having a couple of rounds of shots, Tequilla and fireballs with them. I am feeling no pain after my rum punches and beer so I just swing along while they partake. Fun time!

We call it a night after this!
