In the morning we motor into Le Marin, it’s a huge set of bays about a mile from St. Anne. Tricky moving around here though since there are shoals and reefs everywhere and about 2,500 boats anchored and moored between the two bays. Yeah, there’s a few.
We find a couple likely spots close to town but just as we’re getting set to go over to them, Christy wisely looks at the chart plotter and sees we are about to go onto a reef. Kinda explains why there is no one anchored there. Catastrophe averted, we try another spot but the boats are so tight and most on moorings that it’s not safe. We back off a few hundred meters and anchor pretty safely. Longer dinghy ride to town but safe.

There’s a great dinghy dock and after stumbling around the mall and butchering French with the tourist office, we find Customs and Immigration. Here we go again: gotta use their app, gotta use my email, gotta verify by email, except I have no email since we don’t have any Internet. We are able to steal the mall wifi thanks to the kind ladies managing the crazy bureaucracy and eventually log in. Fill out the forms, but botch the submission. Takes another half hour to get it right as there are people coming and going using the 3 computers.
Finally, we’re cleared in. The two ladies spent just as much time helping all of us trying to check in using their app as they would have just doing the regular paperwork.
Next we dinghy over to where some of the shops are. We need to go to Digicel, the bank and get some groceries. Seems to be a strike in Martinique, nowhere on the island do we ever see ground beef and beef in general is scarce. Still we get what we need and head back to Milu.

It’s now about 2 pm and Christy suggests going to Les Anses-d’Arlet. I thought it was too far to get there before dark but seems to be quite makeable. We motor out of Le Marin and head north to the beaches. It’s a little over two hours and we find a good anchorage with lots of light left. The ocean is water-ski-calm and we’re glad to be settled.

I have work to do but our unlimited data Digicel plan is no good when you can’t get a cell signal. Where we are in this bay I’m getting 2 bars and can’t do anything. We joke what a great plan – unlimited data – but you can’t get data. Infinity times zero is what?
Christy enjoys the serene evening while I struggle down below, eventually give up.

While our anchorage was blissfully calm when we arrived, overnight there will be a large swell and we’re rocking and rolling all night.
