I barely slept with the anchor bridle banging against the bow rollers and the boat swinging and jerking in the wild wind. Up a few times in the night to check things out. I finally get up about 4:30 am as there is no point in trying to sleep.
Christy gets up eventually and we’re supposed to go into Le Marin to get all our shopping and returning stuff done. ‘Cept I am really nervous about leaving Milu in this wind.
All of a sudden there is an especially wild gust that throws Milu hard to port with a huge jerk. I didn’t like the feel of that and go up top. Our neighbour is waving at us and I see why. We used to be ahead of him to the right, now we are still right but beside him. Our trusty anchor has been jerked right out of the ground by that gust and we’re drifting backwards. I call Christy to come up quick, she starts the engine and we move forward to recover the anchor. Or what’s left of it. I’m hoping that gust didn’t break the chain. Very happy to see the anchor at the end of the chain as we wave goodbye to our neighbour. Let’s get out of this area.
We move over to the other side of the bay – it’s further from downtown Le Marin but shallower and should be better to anchor. We get a decent spot and I’m pretty comfortable with this even though the wind is still howling and gusting.
We dinghy in, it’s pretty rough and we get splashed a bit but we head back to the dinghy canal that leads into the industrial side of Le Marin. Do a bit of poking around there and then go to return a couple of items we bought. I take one and Christy takes another. I guess my French is either bad enough or good enough that I eventually get the retailers to give me cash for the shower parts we bought, even though they are still slightly wet from where I tried to install them. They were not happy about it. Christy is not so lucky and has to exchange hers for a basket. Nice basket tho.
There is a great pro hardware store right there and I get a couple of the small, thin screwdrivers I was looking for – good quality and a reasonable price. The guy at the counter is super nice and we chat in Frenglish for a bit.
We try to get a roti but the roti shop is dysfunctional in their operations. The guy beside me is grumbling about it too and I give up pretty quickly. Don’t like lines. I get a sandwich at a cute little sandwich shop while Christy stocks up at Carrefour.
We head back to the dinghy after getting some stuff at the chandlery there and back to Milu, she is still at anchor which is nice.
In the afternoon, we chill on the boat and I do work.
