We’ve been watching the Windy forecast all week and trying to arrange our crossings for when the winds are bearable. Today the winds are scheduled to settle a bit so we plan to depart Le Marin around noon for the 4-6 hour trip back to St. Lucia. We’ll rest overnight in Marigot Bay then go early to Bequia.
In the morning I go into Le Marin to drop off garbage (free!) and check out. Even manage to negotiate the crazy customs/immigration bureaucracy correctly this time. On the way back I find a great hole out of the wind where there is only one (smart) sailboat. A little tricky to get in there, but once in you’re protected from these nasty winds. And there is even a cool little dinghy shortcut to town. Next time.
Eventually we depart and head south towards St. Lucia. It’s a minefield of fishing nets in these bays but we manage to avoid them, put up some sail and head off.
Tho the wind is not as heavy, only about 20 kts, the hangover from 3 days of 30+ kts can be seen in the huge swells. It’s not terrible but pretty rocky. Thankfully we’re making 6-7 kts without a ton of sail up.
When we get to the north end of St. Lucia, the wind curls around the island and sends us hurtling toward Marigot Bay. We’re doing 9-10 kts easily. Nice.
Pull into Marigot Bay and take an anchorage a little further out than I would like but Christy is right, we are going to be up early and don’t need to bother anybody. We dinghy in for a roti and beer. My memory was this is the best roti in the islands but this time it is just average. Christy’s memory is that it was always average. Guess I was hungry.
We’re in bed pretty early, plan on getting up at 5:30 am for a 6:30 am departure.
