16 Nov 2025, Sunday, Tyrell Bay and Paradise Beach, Carriacou, Grenada

We’re up pretty early as usual, the weather is a little spotty around Carriacou this week so we have to watch for our spots to go out.

We plan to move over to Paradise Beach today but first decide to go on a walk around this end of Carriacou. There is a hike up the second tallest hill on the island but by the time we get rolling it is too hot to attempt it. We’re not sure of the state of the trails after the hurricane anyway. Good excuse, right?

So instead we head up the hill behind Carriacou Marine and onto the windward side of the island. It’s a nice walk around the completely empty beach, tho we have to thread our way thru some mangroves near the end. That exits near this imposing looking, hurricane-obliterated hotel. Turns out to be the former Cassada Bay Resort Hotel, a fairly high-end spot that is now almost completely destroyed. It is very sad.

Cassada Bay Resort before the hurricane. It looked like an amazing bar and restaurant at the top, accommodations on the right. Now almost completely destroyed, even the blue boat is tossed up on the rocks.

Cassada Bay now. For sale US5.2M!

We walk back to Tyrell Bay by guessing the route, then take our dinghy back to Milu. Pack up and motor off to Paradise Beach where we will spend the next couple of nights.

Approaching Paradise Beach

Later, we swim to shore and walk the beach. There is a band playing at the far end (it’s Sunday doncha know), they sound pretty good. We walk around, see how far we can get at the north end of the beach. There used to be a road here that took you around the airport to Hillsborough but gone now. On the way we are greeted by a spearfish diver who chats us up. Turns out he is camping on the beach, permanently, and trying to make a living farming sea moss. Tough life but he is doing it, living in tents and under tarps, catching rainwater and operating on solar.

We walk back, decide to check out Allison’s competition, her ex-husband Curtis, for dinner. Curtis’ place, Off-the-Hook Bar and Grill is definitely NOT Allison’s but he is kinda cool anyway. He says sure he can make us something to eat – “chicken or fish”. We tell him we’ll come back for 6:30 pm.

We do, we meet a few regulars (we are the only real patrons), we eat. Christy has the tuna, I have very good chicken wings.

Slightly more rustic than Allison’s Paradise Beach Club
