20 Nov 2025, Thursday, Saltwhistle Bay to Bequia, SVG

Jason Wilkin died at 4:30 am today.

We’re up early to find a new cat has moored about 10 feet from us. Unbelievable.

“Excusez moi! C’est plus pret, n’est-ce pas?” Blank stares from mom and daughter. My French isn’t that bad. Good thing we’re leaving. I think we will have to take mooring balls here from now on or go to Saline Bay. The french cats are too crazy.

Sail is pretty nice for the first few hours, making good speed fairly close hauled. I decide to put the fishing rod out.

After about 45 minutes, we hears a bzzzzzzzzz as the line starts to wind out. Probably sargasso weed. I grab the rod, WHOA that is no weed and Christy sees a large fish jump on the line behind us. This is not only a fish, it is a big fish. Dorado? Maybe. Takes half an hour to tire him out and pull it in. Christy holds the rod while I gaff him and bring him aboard. Sure enough it is a large Dorado, or Mahi Mahi as they’re sometimes called.

Our first fish caught and he’s a beauty

I carve him up before he gets stiff. Pictures don’t seem to do him justice, the meat fills our sandwich tupperware container. We thank him for his sacrifice and God for the bounty. We have part of him for dinner, he will provide meals for about 4 days, and I am not that efficient a carver.

We sail on, but can’t seem to sail close to the wind, we continually stall. With 4 nm to go we put the motor on and cruise into Bequia.

Unfortunately, the work I did to get the overheating problem did not fix it. Still happens after 15 minutes of 2500 rpm+.
