22 Nov 2025, Saturday, Bequia, SVG

Today we’re going to go for a walk somewhere new, or semi-new. Seems can’t go to the Moon Hole – it’s private property so we elect to go in the other direction, out towards Spring Estates at the north end of Bequia. Do a little pre-research and Holy Cow! There’s a golf course there! That’s stretching the term a bit but Firefly Resort has a 9 hole, very short course. EC$50 each includes clubs, tees and balls. What could be better?

We dinghy in and start the walk, it’s only about 2.5 km and once you get over the hill and into the north end, very quiet on a Saturday morning.

Firefly Resort is very cute, very pleasant and sure enough the course is as advertised. There are no greens, the object is to hit the 4×4 that marks the hole. We take our pick of clubs, only need 4 or 5, I only use the sand wedge, 9 iron for chipping and putter (it’s actually helpful to putt the short ones). They give you 5 balls, if you lose any, it’s EC$5 each. Christy gets 3 birdies, including 2 in a row! The longest hole is 90 yards, most are in the 50-60 range.

Great fun.

After, we get a soda for me and smoothie for Christy and they let us use the very nice pool for EC$20 each. They guy likes us cuz I fixed his shirt collar.

We’re refreshed with the cool drinks and nice freshwater swim but that’s gone by the time we walk back. Christy goes for some more groceries while I check out the garbage drop and see about customs in Chateaubelair.

I drop Christy off and take our garbage/recycling in to the transfer area. I’ve been there before but forgot there is a dinghy dock right there, very convenient.

Back on Milu, we never do get our act together enough to go snorkeling and hit the beach. Just kind of laze on the boat and arrange our next few days.

Plan is Chateaubelair tomorrow (Sunday), apparently we can check out of Customs there on Sunday. We’ve arranged to hike the volcano (!) and with some luck will get to do the waterfall too. That’s doubtful tho, but we can do that another time.

We’ll leave Chateaubelaire and SVG on Tuesday and moor between the pitons off St. Lucia. We’ll do the Piton hike on Wednesday, maybe another adventure, not sure. We want to get to Martinique by Friday.

After wrestling with Lower Bay or “downtown” Bequia for dinner, we elect to go downtown, we haven’t even walked the boardwalk and it seems irreverent to come to Bequia and not do that. The past few days we’ve heard these load noise makers all over town and not sure what it is about. Now there is obviously some kind of motorcade with music blasting and horns honking. Christy says there is an election next Thursday so maybe something to do with that.

We dinghy in and decide to go to Mac’s for pizza. Last time we were here was on Willow Dew (not-so-affectionately-renamed Willow Poo) with Ian, Stephen and Colby. It rained hard that night.

Rains hard this night too, just before our pizza is about to arrive. No problem, we go upstairs and have a too-large pizza under the roof.

We walk the boardwalk a bit and even back up the streets a bit to see what all the noise is about. There’s a big to-do going on in a garage on the road with music blaring, loudspeakers, megaphone and of course noisemakers honking. Not sure what it is, but to go any closer would take a big effort. On the way back to the shore a guy is going up and we ask him what it’s all about.

“It’s a rally”. “For the election?” “Yes, I’m on my way there now”. “OK, thanks!”

Shades of Indonesia …

We make it back to Milu without getting rained on settle the boat and prepare the dinghy for tomorrow’s departure.
