3 January 2026, Saturday, Toronto to Fort-de-France, Martinique

We’re up early and have coffee with Blair who generously drives us to the airport. We say our farewells to him and winter and eventually board our flight to Martinique.

The plane takes off. It flies through the air. Some hours later it lands.

We’ve arranged a Europcar rental and that works pretty smoothly at the Martinique airport. Now just gotta navigate our way home. We stop first at the Decathlon store to check it out. Holy moly, sports store on steroids – we’ll have to come back. Now on to the super Carrefour for some food supplies. Google maps shows the way but there’s an accident and we can’t go the way maps wants us to. Cars everywhere as the roundabouts become gridlocked with people going around in circles. We sneak out of the traffic and go around. There are some domestic issues as my navigator is not navigating to my standards and I am not driving to hers.

Finally maps readjusts and takes us to the Carrefour where we park and get some stuff. Then we are able to safely navigate back to Milu. It has been dark for some time now and the seven million roundabouts makes things challenging especially with the heavy Friday night traffic but we manage and soon enough we’re at Etang Z’abricot marina and in view of Milu. All looks well. We unpack our many bags and many food bags. to 90% and hit the hay gratefully.
