We’re up and about as usual. I am always the first up generally, followed by Scott, Carol, then Christy. Breakfast on board then discussions of the days adventures.
The winds remain remarkably calm all week. Sleeping is like onshore and we regularly remind Scott and Carol that it is not normally like this.
Today we plan to make the walk around the head from Grand Anse to Petit Anse d’Arlet – about an hour over some tough terrain but great to have a cold beer at the other end (tho not sure I will have one). Scott and Carol showing some trepidation but we convince them it is doable.
We set off around 10:30 am, I have a 12:00 pm con call with Fidelity so am packing my notebook. We get there alive and poke around a bit before I go off to find a quiet cafe to take my call. Find a suitable place, off the main beach drag a bit and nobody in it so should be perfect. I sit down, order a coffee, connect and wait for the call to start. Just before the call begins, a tribe of about 8 tourists comes in and occupies the table next to me. This won’t do, I move to the other side of the restaurant, explaining in my Frenglish that I need quiet.
The call starts and almost to the second, the “band”, two guys on electronic instruments start up with loud, terrible, elevator music. It’s too late to move (I haven’t paid) and I forgot my headset in Huntsville, so I huddle over the microphone and speakers and try to hear. Gawd the band is awful. Thankfully, Fidelity can’t hear them so it is just me struggling to communicate. Finally the call ends, I pay and go and join the others on the beach where we have a good lunch before commencing the return walk.
We take it easy on board for the afternoon, then dinghy in to the dock. We go to La Scala for a very good, as usual, dinner. Scott and Carol graciously pay.
Dinghy back and nighty night.
