Today is one of those weird days in Rupert’s Bay where the Internet just does not want to work. 4 bars on both our phones but Internet almost zero. it’s a bit of a pain for me as Fidelity is having some issues with a VPN and sometimes I can’t take a call.

First World Problems.

BTW, our dinghy exercise was a partial success – the bumper is once again secured, but it still leaks air.

We’ve been contemplating a trip to Syndicate Falls but the weather in the mornings is just to crappy to undertake it. We’ll get there eventually.

Eventually, we get off the boat and decide to explore Fort Shirley – the historic site at the north end of Rupert’s Bay. Dinghy over to the PAYS dock and start the walk. It’s a pleasant afternoon, of course rains here and there but never too much.

The fort and the east and west Cabrits are pretty interesting. Started in the 1750s and used mostly in the 1800s it’s like walking into the past. Especially the old soldiers quarters and the captain’s quarters. Inside the magazine there are thousands of 1″ diameter lead or steel balls that were used for grape shot I imagine. Surprised they are still here but the magazine is pretty well protected from the elements. We take one as a souvenir.

The climb to the top of the east Cabrits is pretty long actually, more than it looks but the views are terrific from the old ramparts facing north and south. Ghosts everywhere.

We eventually make our way back to the fully restored fort itself. It’s restored for tourists mostly, they do weddings and small business meetings here. The restoration is really well done though. We explore some of the buildings and elect not to go up the west side of the Cabrits. Rain is in the air and time is a little short.

Eventually we make our way back to PAYS, back to Milu for a swim/shower and a shave for me.
