23 Feb 2026, Monday, Pointe-a a-Pitre to Gosier, Guadeloupe

We’re definitely leaving today as the wind has dropped and we want to avoid paying for the mooring ball. We’ve technically cheated them out of two nights already but figure they won’t notice.

First I take our old dinghy over to Ben and Astrid’s boat, they offered to let us tie it up there for a couple of days, they won’t be moving for quite a while! We accept that offer and I row over first thing, drop it off and swim back to Milu- that’s easier and faster than dropping our dinghy and putting it back up again.

We’re off and moving about 8 am, motor only, it’s only a couple miles. Takes almost exactly one hour from mooring disconnect to anchor down off Islet du Gosier just in front of the town. Gosier is a bit of an upscale area we’re told so should be interesting. We notice right away the shuttle going back and forth from the town dock to the island loaded with tourists every half hour or so. After an hour or two we reckon the island is pretty crowded so we decide we’ll go out there a bit later this afternoon.

I dive on the anchor and while I’m in there, scrape the boat’s waterline with a piece of plastic – we can’t find the plastic scraper anywhere. Don’t want to use metal. It comes off pretty easily and it’s pretty messy. Astrid said she just pokes away at the boat bottom a bit every day. I’ll find some scrapers and we’ll do that. At least from the seaside it doesn’t look abandoned any more.

Instead we dinghy into the town dock which is a bit of a sketchy landing but works OK. We walk around the town, it seems a bit sleepy, though the beach is busy. We walk north-west a km or so to the other beach. It’s nice, not so crowded, we don’t go in.

Hot walk back to the town dock, we go back down to the beach area, scoping out restaurants for dinner tomorrow, Christy’s birthday. We find a likely candidate, Vue Sur Mer which seems pretty clean, wide open to the sea.

We head back to Milu, then dinghy out to the island. People are starting to line up for the return trip. I’m thirsty and buy a semi-cold Orangina from a vendor. We people-watch on the beach, Christy goes for a bit of a swim.

We head back to Milu, we have a Zoom call at 8 pm so need to get ready for that.
