25 Feb 2026, Wednesday, Gosier to Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe

While I didn’t sleep particularly well with the usual continuous shoulder pain, I do feel better this morning. Maybe Mina’s massage did help.

Anyway, we’ve had a very rocky couple of days here in Gosier and looking forward to leaving this anchorage, tho it is a nice enough town. I think if we moved closer to the island or closer to the beach it would be better. The wind forecast said it would calm down but it never really did. But it changed direction so the boat was pointed to the wind, but the swell was abeam, making for rock ‘n’ roll. We’re not upset about leaving here, going back to Pointe-a-Pitre and getting our mainsail furling fixed. What a relief that will be.

We’re back at Marina Bas-du-fort by 8:30 am, a little early. Ring them on VHF 9 and they don’t seem to have our berth info. Eventually, after we do a 180 in the harbour and head back out to buy time, they tell us to come in, the Captainerie will meet us. We’re all the way back in before he comes out. Doesn’t seem to know where we’re supposed to go, then points to an open spot just off the closest pier. He helps us attach to the mooring ball in front while I back in. Just Christy and I to manage the boat and the dock lines but it goes pretty well. Soon enough we’re safely attached.

Safely in the marina… phew! Managed to nudge ourselves into that tight spot!

We go in to the Captainerie itself to pay and get the digital key to the gate. Meanwhile Christy goes next door to check on the arrival of our UPS package. Not there yet, they say 11 am latest.

Also, last night the main fridge went south. I take the motor/controller cover off, it appears the controller is kaflooie.

JP arrives about 9 am. Looks at the mast and says “it would be better if the sail were down”. “I know, but we couldn’t manage it.” We tell him we’re about to get the part and he disappears. Though we text him throughout the day, we don’t hear back from him until tomorrow. A bit nerve racking as we only have 2 days and apparently they are full here.

JP and Valentine, his assistant, inspect the main sail

We go back to the boat, Christy is readying the laundry loads, I am trying to work out how to get water. Turns out you have to load up your digital key fob at the kiosk for laundry and water, so we do. Christy goes to do laundry, I go in search of a hose adapter I can use to connect our garden hose to their water stations and a refrigerator controller module. I find a hose adapter but no one the controller module but iceberg does, I google his number while I wait for Christy. He has one, only EU$350. Mon dieu. Not much choice, I will meet him at the Captainerie in an hour.

Christy comes back with the laundry, I pick up the fridge module. Install the module, same problem, doesn’t work. Call the fridge guy back he says no problem, he will take the controller back. So what is the issue?

About then, Astrid and Ben show up on our pier with our old dinghy. We get to chatting and sure enough, Ben has a good idea what is wrong with the fridge, we spend a few minutes and sure enough, it is a bad connection elsewhere. Good guy to know, glad we bought them a Sunday bbq dinner. He also goes through our battery system and makes some adjustments to improve it.

I’m pretty pooped but go for a shower and shave as Christy makes dinner. Not the nicest shower facility but functional. Back on Milu, Christy makes a nice curry dinner, apparently made a lot because she had to cook our defrosted chicken. It’s very good, we eat out back.
