Another beautiful day in Bequia. The nights have been great too, with a full moon approaching – looks like it will be 100% on Wednesday.
I go off alone early to town where I take our empty propane cylinders in to be filled – we are down to our last small one and it’s at least half empty. Thankfully, they say they can have them all filled by 4 pm. That’s more than a season’s worth of gas. I also try to find replacements for the broken rope organizers and a 5/16″ tee but no luck. They didn’t have the tee in Bequia last November either.
I get a last minute text from Christy to pick up some ice, they bought some fresh red snapper from a couple guys in a boat and so we have something to bbq tonight.
I head back to the boat. A cat has left so we move over two boats. It’s a little closer to the beach and hopefully less windy (more on that later). I have some work to do so the girls go snorkeling on the reef between PM and Lower Bay, its much easier for them now that we’re much closser. They have excellent luck.
I haven’t seen an octopus snorkeling before but there’s one in downtown Bequia.
Later on, just before 4 pm we all go back into town, the girls go shopping while I ditch some garbage and pick up the propane. I chat with the propane guy while I’m waiting for the girls to return. It’s not just me that thinks Bequia looks dry, they are in the middle of a mini-drought and they’re pretty desperate for rain, especially since it’s their only source of fresh water.
The girls come back, we head back to Milu and start collecting stuff for the onshore bbq. There’s one shaky picnic table but it will do for us so we set up there and start up the ‘q. Doesn’t take long for the grill to get hot and the fish to cook. It’s very good though sticks to the grill a bit, gotta clean that sucker off.
It’s a very nice night with a nearly full moon. The surf is a bit rough getting in and out of the dinghy, Liz gets crashed on the way in as it looks benign but surges very strongly. All ok though.
That night there is tons of swell though the winds are very light. We suspect it is the full moon effect and perhaps being closer to shore makes it worse. But I doubt it.
