Day 9 – Myrtle Beach to Savannah

The day dawns semi-clear and warm. Rain is gone, forecast looks promising especially considering yesterday. I do a workout, Christy does a swim. We leisurely eat, pack up and depart for the coastal route drive to Savannah. No decent coffee on the horizon.

Gotta apologize right here, I killed the Relive app accidentally upon arrival in Savannah and lost the route history. Ain’t much to see anyway, I reckon.

We stop at a Whole Foods for some fresh fruit, buffet lunch (what’s that? about $30US?) then take it to Kiawah Island for lunch and a looksee. It’s definitely a playground for the rich but interesting. Kite surfer is booking it in the surf, sea doos doing something crazy, we can’t tell quite what, but they are bobbing and weaving in the crashing surf and occasionally towing surfers out into the waves, but they don’t surf back.

Nice looking beach but very windy, quite cool.

Doesn’t look like much but the wind is rockin

We depart.

Nice drive under the live oaks and spanish moss, roads are pretty quiet as has been the case all the way.

An hour or two later – wotsat? Best coffee for miles? Hard stop. It is very good coffee, even Christy has a pumpkin latte. Starbucks prices on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere but ya gotta do whatcha gotta do.

We roll into Savannah about 5:15 pm – right on time. This stop is my cousin Travis and his wife Trina’s place on the south end of Savannah. I’ve met Travis before but never Trina and so that makes us mostly strangers. But of course it’s like we’ve known each other forever, they are so gracious and hospitable. Travis’ daughter Amy, her husband Justin and their two young kids Aliza and Langston come over for dinner also.

Southern boil down (I think)

Langston is all sports all the time but he’s a bid wound up. So we wind him up some more. Justin pitches, I field and the kids bat with a wiffle ball and plastic bat in the dark in the back yard. Kid can hit. Lotta laughs, then dinner and a few kid jokes before Amy and fam depart. Great fun.

We’re off to bed at a reasonable hour. Christy and I read a bit before lights out.

Sorry, lost the video
