2024 Oct 23 – Wednesday, Benji Bay, Grenada

Yeah what else. It’s hot, humid, rains hard from time to time. Even the locals complain about the heat. At times it is tough, like when you’re jammed into the back seat of a local bus but mostly we don’t find it too bad. Maybe cuz we got A/C to cool the room off from time-to-time?

Still, mornings are nice and this morning I go down to the dock, do a workout and go for a swim. All before 7 am. What a great way to start the day. Turns out I accidentally recorded the video of me going down the stairs to the bay. It is interesting only in that it shows how many stairs there are (77) to get there. Reminds me of a wedding video I shot once …

Holey Moley Jimmy, we got a problem. Turns out Friday is a holiday in Grenada – Thanskgiving – thought that was only a North American thing but noooooo. That means we’re REALLY tight for time to get the boat sanded down, get the anti-fouling paint on and get a dinghy.

Note #1 to self – please check Grenada holidays before planning. Note #2 to self, please double all time frames associated with plans.

After breakfast, Christy and I go over to Clarke’s to make sure Martin is going to start today. No sign of him anywhere. I eventually find his phone number and after a while he shows up. He’s ready to get started but turns out I need to buy the tarps and sandpaper and pay half in advance. Okaaaay. His car isn’t working so we get a friend of his to take us to Hubbards, a car repair place for sanding disks and the banks. I give Martin EC$1000 deposit for the sanding job. I pay for the trip too – $60EC.

While doing this, Christy finds out our potential dinghy replacement has been sold! Kinda shitty the way the guy blew us off last night, then sold it from under our noses the next morning. Now we’re scrambling. There are not a lot of choices in the ‘hood for decent used dinghys. A few but not a lot.

I have to get back to Bob’s for 2:30 for a Fidelity call, so I tell Martin the tarps are on the boat, please get started. “No problem” which is something that comes out of his mouth a lot. Somehow not terribly comforting.

We hustle back to Bob’s only to find my 2:30 pm was postponed til after the 3:30 pm call. This means we are unlikely to get anywhere this afternoon. In fact, I am not done until 5 pm.

Sigh.
