11 April 2026, Saturday, Mt. Hartman Bay, Grenada

Given the choice between The Cove grill night and The Hash we choose the Hash, it will be our last one for many months. Call Abby and he will pick us up at Secret Harbour at 2:15 pm. It’s a fairly long ride there, almost Grenville but goes through Grand Etang instead of the coast road so should be a little faster, a little more interesting.

Can’t really remember what else we did that morning but around 2 pm we dinghy over to Secret Harbour. As we’re tying up the dinghy a Brit couple asks if we’re going to the Hash and so we meet Richard and Steph who are anchored out in the bay. We chat amiably with them for the whole ride. Richard talks a lot but is quite soft spoken so it is very difficult to hear him.

The Hash proceeds as usual, I choose to run, Christy, Richard and Steph walk. After the initial road part, the route is very narrow, mostly just a path and quite steep – there is very little running to do. The run diverts from the walk at about the 2/3 mark where runners go down the hill and then follow a steep creek bed back up to the top. Heart rate definitely going as I get to the top then run fast down the last road slope for a strong finish. Sweating profusely, I get a cold drink and wait for Christy. I allowed myself a post-Hash beer but never do have one, don’t really need it.

When Christy shows up she’s covered in mud from a tumble on the false trail part that was a steep hill. I was lucky being in the front group but I was thinking it would be slick for others behind me. It was. She’s not hurt but did lose her sunglasses. I didn’t think to go look for them, that hill wasn’t too far into the route. Oh well.

We have the BBQ chicken, I manage to eat mine before a dog absconds with it. It’s pretty good and very reasonable – EC$30 for two orders of chicken and fries. We watch the Virgin Ceremony but don’t partake in the beer soaking ritual. Then Abby gives us the signal and it’s time to go.

Richard talks the whole way home but hard to hear him.

We’re the last to be dropped off this time, Richard and Steph go into Secret Harbour to listen to the band, we go back to Milu to get changed before joining them. The band is really quite good but of course too loud so you can’t even hear the lyrics. The acoustics are very bad in this room too. We’re sitting at a high top with Richard and Christy in the middle, Steph on one side, me on the other. Conversation for me is impossible – although Richard talks the whole time, I can’t hear a thing and apologize for not participating in between songs. Poor Christy.

Richard and Steph leave before us, we’re not far behind them, we stay until the close up at 8:30 pm. Late night out for us!
